Abstract

Abstract: : Without doubt, various forms of bid‘ah emerged during the expansion of Muslim territories. Subsequently, fitnah began to creep up on Muslim’s life to the extent that it had affected their belief, worship and behavior. Then, ignorance prevailed among some fuqara’ and jurists, and discord between the two classes thus escalated. The two classes accused each other of practising bid‘ah and having gone astray from the right path, especially from the side of jurists to al-fuqara’. Hence, what kind of accusations that the jurists had made against the al-fuqara’? And what were their reasons for doing so? Was it due to the predominance of jurists in the society unlike al-fuqara’? Therefore, Sufi scholars took it upon themselves to tackle this threat. A number of them were entrusted to regulate the fundamentals of faith and to preserve it. Among them who followed the lead of those scholars in support of Sufi doctrine was al-‘Allamah al-Faqih al-Nawazili Shaykh Abu al-Qasim bin Khajju, who died in 956 A.H., through his book "Diya’ al-Nahar". In this article, we have adopted the "descriptive method" to extract and outline Shaykh Ibn Khajju's defence of al-fuqara’ and the most important methodological features he had used in reasoning, and also to introduce the book and the author's personality
